AC Electric Motors E-Learning

Electric Motor Virtual Learning EC Electric motor is a type of electric machine that converts electricity into mechanical motion. The opposite operation, which is the conversion of mechanical motion into electricity, is performed by the generator. The two devices are similar except in function. Most electric motors are powered by electromagnets. But there are also motors that operate on other phenomena such as electrostatic force and piezoelectric effect.

AC induction motors are the most common motors used in industrial as well as domestic motion control systems. Simple and robust design, cheap price, low maintenance cost and easy and complete connection to an AC power source are the main advantages of AC induction motors. There are various types of AC induction motors available in the market. Different engines are suitable for different jobs. Although induction motors are designed for applications requiring higher power, three-phase AC (or multi-phase) induction motors are used.

Summary of the history of EC electric motors:
These motors use the phase difference between the supply phases of several electric phases to create a rotating electromagnetic field within them. Often, the rotor contains a number of copper conductors. Which are placed in steel. Through electromagnetic induction, a rotating magnetic field is induced in these conductors. Which in turn leads to the creation of a balancing magnetic field. And causes the motor to move in the direction of rotation of the field.

This type of motor is known as an induction motor. In order for this motor to start, the motor must always rotate at a speed slower than the frequency of the power supply applied to the motor. Because otherwise a balancing field will not be created in the rotor. The use of this type of motor in traction applications such as locomotives, which is known as asynchronous traction motors, is increasing day by day. The separation field current is applied to the rotor windings. To create a continuous magnetic field. Which is present in the synchronous motor. The motor rotates simultaneously with a rotating magnetic field generated by three-phase AC power. Synchronous motors can also be used as current generators.

The speed of the AC motor initially depends on the supply frequency, and the amount of slip, or the difference in rotational speed between the impeller and the station field, determines the torque produced by the motor. Speed change in this type of motor can be made possible by having a bunch of coils or poles in the motor that turn the speed of the magnetic rotating field on and off. However, with the advancement of power electronics, we can have more uniform control over the speed of motors by changing the frequency of the power supply.
