Basil Work E-Learning

Basil work virtual training has been created for people to become fully acquainted with basil work. The time of planting basil is after eliminating the risk of cold and frost. Propagation is by seed methods, seedling transfer and cuttings. Basil seeds must be obtained from a reputable source to obtain good quality seeds. The seed germination ratio is above 80%.
In large-scale planting of basil on agricultural land, a fertilizer sprayer or commercial sprayer with a spraying ratio is suitable. When spraying is direct, high spraying increases the germination ratio by 90-80%. Commercially, the seeder is suitable for sowing seeds. The seedbed should be suitable. We should level the ground well, crush the lumps and create a uniform environment. At planting time, the humidity should be within the capacity of the field.

Suitable conditions for planting basil:

  • Soil:
Light sand or silty loam soil, good drainage (warm in early spring) and ventilation should be well done. The average pH is 6.5-6, but the optimal pH is 6.4. Most soils in the central regions of Iran are alkaline. To modify and reduce to neutral and acidic, sulfur should be added to the soil before planting.

Ammonium sulfate fertilizer is used to lower the pH of alkaline soils and calcium nitrate is used to raise the pH of acidic soils. It is better to disinfect the soil. That, disinfected by chemicals, the bed should be plowed and flat and should have a moisture level of Gavron (at least 25 cm depth of soil should have this moisture).

  • Temperature
When the danger of frost has passed, it is a good time to plant. It is better for germination to have a temperature of 20-29 degrees. But in general, they can grow in the temperature range of 10-30 degrees Celsius, but the optimum temperature is 20-24 degrees Celsius. As a result of increasing the temperature above 40 degrees Celsius, in addition to stopping the growth of the plant, it suffers burns along the leaves. The suitable temperature range for plant growth is the extent to which photosynthesis is balanced by high levels of respiration. It should be noted that high temperatures combined with high humidity can cause damage problems.
  • Water
It needs constant moisture. From the beginning of germination, it needs 550-500 mm of water. Basil is not resistant to water stress at any stage of growth. Regular irrigation is required in this product. Drip or submerged irrigation can be used. To produce each gram of dried basil in leafy vegetables, 2500 grams of water is used.
The optimum temperature when watering is better to be 15-20 degrees Celsius, because at low water temperatures, it can cause shock to the plant and also cause some diseases.
Irrigation should not be done during hot hours of the day. Suitable for early morning or evening.
