Dry Farming E-Learning

Rainfed virtual training has been created for people to become fully acquainted with rainfed. Dryland cultivation means cultivation without irrigation. It is a crop that grows with rainwater. Rainfed refers to those areas of agriculture where the average water requirement of crops is met through rain so that the yield potential of crops is limited to less than 40% of their full potential in the absence of water shortage.

Accordingly, 25% of the world’s grain production takes place in rainfed conditions. Some methods help increase water supply to the crop by improving water storage efficiency during fallow periods, reducing runoff during crop growth, or increasing root expansion volume for more water. However, most of the crop production in these areas is actually limited due to poor plant density, low soil fertility, attack of plant diseases, improper planting time, waterlogging and weed competition, etc. However, water scarcity is the most important limiter of production in rainfed conditions.

What is rainfed like in Iran?
So far in Iran, there is no comprehensive definition for dryland, either legally or scientifically, and there is no rule to control it, and the same is true for rangelands because basically rangelands and drylands in Iran are always interchangeable and with Attention to weather, social and economic conditions in some years is reduced from one level and added to another level.

And the separation of pasture and dryland is practically difficult because the lands that are planted in dryland for one or more years are used as pasture during this period and thus far dryland in this land as a technique and Fan is not known and has not been considered as a huge source of food production.

Topics of the rainfed virtual training course:
Climate analysis of drylands and drylands soils
Summer fall run
Determination and application of water and soil protection methods
Selecting and performing different cultivation stages based on plants and rainfed areas
